Feast of Saint Oronzo Lecce
Feast of Saint Oronzo Lecce
Piazza Sant’Oronzo, the beating heart of the city, hosts the festivities beneath the majestic column topped by the statue of the saint, a symbol of devotion and history. The festival, enhanced by evocative illuminations and an amusement park, transforms Lecce into a magnet for tourists and the curious, offering an unforgettable experience of Salento culture and tradition.
The Column of Sant’Oronzo, approximately 29 meters high, is located in Piazza Sant’Oronzo. At the top of the column stands a statue of the patron saint. Until 2018, the column housed the historic statue made in Venice in 1739. Since 2024, it has housed the new bronze copy made after the restoration of the original, which can no longer be hoisted on the column.

The three fireworks displays that will be set off in Lecce on August 26th, along with those scheduled for August 27th from San Cataldo (Lecce Marina) on the occasion of the fifth day of celebrations, will therefore feature visual effects without the usual deafening noises.
